Long Live the Queen (1)
The world has stopped.
No, let me correct myself.
We have entered the “frozen world.”
A typical cityscape. People were still awake, lingering in the aftermath of the Harvest Festival, moving around in search of drinks and food, some even humming as if the night had only just begun.
But now, all those people were gone. The only ones who could move were those who possessed the “power” to resist the Primal Rune.
Erin Danua recognized the nature of this phenomenon instantly.
“The Primal Rune. The very first symbol. ‘T.’”
The gateway to paradise. The rune that opens the path. This rune had invited us into this frozen world, the gateway to paradise.
“…We searched for so long, and it was here all along.”
“It’s because Tates Valtazar hid it.”
In The Legend of Arhan, the “Fall of the Academy” occurs in the latter half of the story.
The event takes place on the last day of the Autumn Harvest Festival.
Tates Valtazar, Ohad Breth, Dron Warsky, Fermack Daman, and the shadow monsters orchestrate a massive assault.
When the monsters from the shadow world reach critical mass, they invade the city.
“At midnight, the rune that Valtazar hid will open the shadow world… the ‘Gateway to Paradise.’ It takes eight hours. Once enough monsters fill the city, they’ll all burst forth at once.”
“The reversal of paradise. I never thought it would be used this way.”
“It’s similar to what Fermack Daman tried.”
Fermack Daman—he was the one who summoned the shadow fortress during our duel.
This is an expanded version of that. The scale is absurd, making it a one-time, guaranteed invasion.
“…”
Erin saw much further than I did. She seemed to be seeing something I couldn’t.
“When the Goídelic people betrayed us and tried to take paradise from us, we left a curse and departed.”
The eternal time, the eternal life, and the power of paradise that promised eternity were reversed, leaving behind a shadowy paradise.
“The blessing of eternity turned into a curse, creating the shadow world.”
A world with no sun, no light, no blessings of the earth, no whisper of the wind, filled only with malice, where evil was born.
“The monsters, spirits, and demons of this world… they are all products of the evil that seeped into the world after the reversal. Normally, just the seepage causes this much, but…”
“If the reversal pours the gathered shadows into the world all at once, the city will be destroyed in an instant.”
The final act of the Autumn Harvest Festival.
The “Fall of Mercaba Academy” episode.
It’s a major event in The Legend of Arhan, leading into the latter half of the story and resulting in countless deaths.
The city crumbles under the flood of monsters, and in the end, the king and his followers appear to destroy the academy.
Normally, this would be an unwinnable defense. However—
“I didn’t spend these past two years doing nothing.”
I tapped the silver spear. The resonance of the silver spear spread throughout the still world.
『 ᛊ 』 — Sowilo
ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ ᛊ
*TL NOTE: The symbol 『 ᛊ 』—Sowilo, is a rune from the Elder Futhark, which is basically the ancient alphabet that Germanic tribes used before they switched to the Latin alphabet.
So, ᛊ (Sowilo), which can also look like ᛋ or be called Sowilō, stands for the “S” sound. The word Sowilo itself translates to “Sun” or “Sunlight” in Proto-Germanic.
In the story, this rune probably shows up to symbolize things like light, power, and victory—all the good stuff you’d associate with the sun.
Runes spread across the entire world. The rune of the sun swallowed the shadows and illuminated the world.
“You carved quite a few.”
Erin recalled how she had spent 300 years in Nazrea carving runes. The runes she had meticulously placed throughout the city had become a hidden trump card, ready to save her when needed.
“It doesn’t cover the entire city.”
The sun rune illuminated the world, driving away the shadows and bringing light back.
The twisted beings, not yet fully formed, dreaded the sunlight that threatened to erase their existence. Thus, they avoided the paths illuminated by the sun rune.
“A path… is being created.”
The monsters, fleeing the sun rune, gathered along the unlit paths. As a result, their movements were guided.
“It begins.”
-BOOM!
-BOOM!
-BOOM!!
At the convergence point where the monsters gathered, a deafening explosion rocked the city.
The sound of battle erupted from all directions, centered around the clock tower. Each blast was powerful enough to shake the earth.
“Do you have any idea how many special-grade warriors are here?”
Mass slaughter of the monsters had begun across the city.
If creatures had crawled out of hell, they would look like this.
In the frozen world, in the final days of the gods, forms that had not yet taken shape crawled into the mortal realm from the underworld.
The time limit was until dawn when the shadows cast over the world would be dispelled.
-Kiiiii…
-Kaaaah…
The shadows began to take shape. Voiceless entities found voices, eyeless beings gained eyes.
In roughly six hours, they would fully form and complete the army that would invade the world.
-Find them! There are living beings out there!
-Find them! Find them!
But within this reversed shadow world, there were still living beings.
The “player party” tasked with stopping them. More precisely, beings who, due to their “divinity,” were unaffected by the shadow’s corruption.
The monsters, driven by instinct, surged toward them, eager to tear them apart. The sight of these barely formed creatures, tangled and entwined, flooding the streets was a grotesque vision of hell.
“…There are a lot of them.”
“Grrr!”
At the first point of entry to the academy, along the main road, a girl with water-colored hair and a red dog waited.
“Heh… It looks like I’m taking on the most.”
There was no helping it. She was a child of mana, possessing magic power that rivaled that of a great mage.
Her amplified magic could freeze entire regions with a single spell.
“If the battlefield were divided by gender, this would be easier.”
“…”
The mention of Maha’s curse made the mages behind her flinch. Chunshik, Daeshik… and 150 other mages.
It wasn’t just a group of mages—it was an entire magical battalion under Marie Dunarev’s command.
Not just here, but all over the city, there were 400 mage slaves captured during the Magic Tower raid, providing fire support.
Korin Lork’s relentless pursuit of these mages had proven to be invaluable.
“Marie.”
“Father, Mother.”
But it wasn’t just the mages. Duke Marde Dunarev and Duchess Elencia Dunarev had also come to the city to support their daughter.
“You two take care of the eastern boulevard. I can handle this alone.”
“…”
Duke Marde Dunarev couldn’t hide the sorrow in his eyes as he watched his daughter head into battle.
But trying to stop her would only be an act of cowardice.
His daughter was a vampire destined to face harsh challenges. She was a hero, bound to fight against the world’s crises. As parents, they wanted to protect her, but that would be cowardly. So…
“Our daughter will do great.”
“Yes, I believe in you, Marie.”
Leaving behind the trust of her parents, Marie stared down the advancing monsters. Despite the overwhelming number, a confident smile played on her lips.
“There are a lot of them, but…”
Her mana surged.
Her ability, <Mana Amplification>, could exponentially increase the power of even the weakest spells.
“They’re not infinite, are they?”
There would be an end.
There was a time limit.
So, until that time ran out, she would destroy and destroy and destroy again.
────!!
The mana, amplified to its limit, vibrated the air with the promise of a grand spell.
A special-grade mage. Even before becoming a vampire, Marie Dunarev was hailed as a genius destined to be the next great mage. Now, she wielded the power of a demon.
In The Legend of Arhan, she was the final boss of Act 1.
A being so powerful that, under normal circumstances, the player’s party couldn’t hope to defeat her.
But now, unleashing her grand spell without any risks brought a sense of awe to the mages who witnessed it.
“Oh…”
“Such immense power…”
Even the elder mages of the 8th floor of the Magic Tower, who had once held such pride, now shed tears of awe and despair before this child blessed by mana.
Marie’s grand spell, <Snow Blossom>, covered the monsters in a storm that froze the world.
-Crack! Crunch!
-Swish…
The storm of swordsmanship and the swift, precise strikes of the blade tore the monsters apart.
Necks were severed, legs were cut, and hearts were pierced in a swift dance of swordplay.
The malformed creatures, unable to fully manifest, were ripped apart and scattered into the air before they could fully take form.
“Ugh…!”
The vicious claws of a monster came dangerously close to Alicia Arden, and though the blow was severe, its tenacity far surpassed that of ordinary beasts. Just as she struggled to react—
─────
A blindingly fast sword cleaved the creature in half at the wrist.
“Th-thank you, sister.”
“You’ve grown stronger, but your training is still lacking in some basic areas.”
“I-I’ve been trying my best, though?”
“Ho~”
Under normal circumstances, Alicia would have shrunk back in fear, but now she could only whimper. Lunia Arden smiled at her sister’s growth.
“If you don’t kill them in one blow, make sure to decapitate them. These creatures are tougher than ordinary monsters.”
“Yes, my lady!”
The Arden sisters, along with the elite swordsmen of the Arden family, formed a battle line, cutting through the waves of monsters.
“I’ve heard about them, but these monsters from another dimension… our husband is fighting something truly terrifying.”
“He said he was saving the world.”
As Alicia cut through the monsters as part of the battle formation, Lunia was the embodiment of strength, while Alicia was the flowing current. Together, their skills overwhelmed the monsters.
“You’ve changed, Alicia. You used to never talk back to me.”
“I-Is it really talking back?”
Lunia smirked as she watched her sister, who was now nervously sweating. This was the same child who couldn’t even meet her eyes before, but now, she had grown.
“Well… Korin said I was doing well. So… I guess I’m doing okay.”
“Haha.”
Her growth, her change, was all because of a man. No wonder they say it’s important to find a good partner.
“We both found good men, didn’t we, sister?”
“C-Cough…”
Alicia blushed deeply but didn’t question the use of “we.” The sisters were truly alike in this regard.
“My lady! Additional enemies are coming from the three o’clock direction! Approximately two thousand!”
The report came from a swordsman observing from a high vantage point. Lunia clicked her tongue as she saw the horde of monsters advancing from that direction.
“There’s quite a lot of them. They weren’t kidding when they said these pests could swallow the entire city.”
“Shall we request more support from the mages?”
“Signal Duke Marde for artillery support. We have plenty of those mage slaves, more than we need.”
Alternatively, they could deploy the guerrilla unit, Dorron Warsky and the Warsky Mercenary Corps.
With the mages from the Magic Tower, the Arden family swordsmen, and the Warsky Mercenary Corps… they had more than enough strength.
“Step aside.”
Then, there was a sharp whoosh, the sound of air being sliced. It grew louder, like the air itself was screaming—
“Kiie?”
“?!!!”
Chains whipped around in a counterclockwise direction. With a harsh whirling sound, hundreds of monsters were torn apart by the chains that appeared out of nowhere.
“Eek…”
Alicia flinched at the terrifying force. Naturally, there were only a few people who could wield such immense power.
“Hua Ran… be careful with that, okay?”
“It’s fine. They won’t die.”
The black-clad nun wielded the chains that bound her.
The more she channeled her aura, the more it consumed, binding the demonic beast within her.
After the restraints were lifted by the Saint, it had become little more than “growing chains.”
But in the hands of the Demon nun, these chains became a more fearsome weapon than any other.
“You have your own area to handle, don’t you?”
“I killed them all. I chased after the ones who ran.”
“Of course.”
It was no wonder the monsters were terrified.
The demons inherently submitted to those stronger than them.
Marie Dunarev, a vampire, and Hua Ran, a demonic nun, carried an aura unlike any other. The overwhelming presence of these beings made even the monsters, born of darkness, tremble in fear.
“I’m going deeper. I’ll destroy everything.”
“Please, go ahead.”
Before the words even left her mouth, Hua Ran took a deep breath and leaped.
The chains, extending tens of meters, were dragged along by her rapid sprint.
This was the result when an unstoppable force charged through. Hundreds, thousands of monsters were torn to shreds, reduced to mere scraps of flesh, as they collided with the indestructible Hua Ran.
Her destination was the densest cluster of monsters. In the face of a force that shook entire nations on her own, the monsters’ feeble resistance was shattered.
