Chapter 39

These actions alone could show what kind of mindset Ye Zhi had. Gu Ren had long discovered that she was very different from what other people thought of her, especially from what was said in the rumors.
Ye Zhi didn’t continue to speculate about it. She felt that she had unintentionally stumbled upon an important secret of Gu Ren and needed to comfort him. Ye Zhi pondered and then said, “In fact, night blindness also has many benefits.”
Gu Ren raised an eyebrow and asked, “Is that right?”
Ye Zhi’s tone was very serious, “Although you can’t see at night, you can listen. Your sense of touch will certainly be much sharper than usual.”
“Now listen carefully. What’s the noise outside the window?”
Gu Ren turned his head, his eyes were still dark. However, he could hear the sound of cicadas in the silence of the night.
Ye Zhi continued, “You can actually enjoy these sounds and…”
Before Ye Zhi finished speaking, the lights suddenly turned on and the brightness extended to every corner.
Ye Zhi saw everything around her. She lowered her head and saw….the two of them still holding each other’s hands tightly.
Ye Zhi’s heart thumped, she subconsciously looked up and met Gu Ren’s gaze which was dark and profound.
Gu Ren watched Ye Zhi calmly. He opened his mouth slowly and asked Ye Zhi to continue what she was talking about. His voice sounded inadvertently curious.
“So, what else?”
Ye Zhi was flustered. She didn’t know how to answer.
At this time, footsteps of someone approaching sounded on the stairs and then they heard the steward’s voice call out, “Young Master, Young Madam…”
The steward arrived upstairs, only to see Gu Ren and Ye Zhi holding hands together. His voice stopped abruptly. He seemed to have interrupted something.
Ye Zhi finally reacted and withdrew her hand swiftly. Ye Zhi lowered her head, causing a few of her black hair to fall on her face and covered her cheeks which were faintly tinted with redness.
Gu Ren glanced at his empty hand. The cold touch of her palm had disappeared but he still felt her warmth lingering on his hand.
Gu Ren shook his hand gently, he turned to look at the steward and said in a low voice, “What’s the matter?”
The steward glanced at Gu Ren’s face and said cautiously, “I just want to inform you that the standby power has been turned on.” The steward was afraid to have disturbed the two of them so he went downstairs immediately.
On the second floor, only Gu Ren and Ye Zhi were left alone again. The atmosphere was awkwardly silent.
Gu Ren looked at Ye Zhi. He looked down at Ye Zhi’s hand. His voice slowed down, “I’m sorry. I got carried away.”
Ye Zhi raised her head and answered calmly, but she averted his eyes, “It’s all right. Good night…”
With that, Ye Zhi hurried quickly back to her room.
Gu Ren looked at Ye Zhi’s anxious back and chuckled. He said in a low voice, “Good night.”
While netizens were questioning how Sheng Man lied, Sheng Man’s agency immediately figured out a way to divert their attention before things got out of hand.
It seemed that Sheng Man was oblivious to the evaluation of her on the internet and her company posted on Weibo as usual.
In this Weibo post, Sheng Man was holding a lottery ticket. It was a raffle contest in order to thank the fans. The prize was this year’s limited edition Dior bag.
Sheng Man did this every once in a while so it was not that surprising. Some netizens’ attention had been diverted but a small number of them were still persisting on the issue.
Sheng Man’s move just barely suppressed some of the discussion. The agency believed that Ye Zhi wouldn’t directly admit the matter anyway. Even if there was evidence scattered everywhere, at this rate, who would still believe the allegation?
As time went by, no one would remember that Sheng Man had lied.
